400 years old Naki Sumo festival where babies are encouraged to cry as long and as hard as possible was recently held. Sumo wrestlers help parents by making terrible grimaces and sounds and provoking crying of toddlers.

In our countries, when the baby cries, its parents are usually willing to do anything to make her/him stop. In Japan, however, the opposite occurs, as in the culture of this country baby’s cry has the power to banish evil spirits and is a sign of good health.

According to this belief, recently was held 400 years old Naki Sumo festival where babies are encouraged to cry as long and as hard as possible was recently held. Sumo wrestlers help parents by making terrible grimaces and sounds and provoking crying of toddlers.

Winner of the competition is the baby who cries longest and strongest, but we could rather say that the winners are its parents who haven’t probably for months had night's sleep.
