Paris has voted against the construction of the massive “Tour Triangle” skyscraper!

Aldought they voted against this construction, the ballot may be thrown out over concerns that some councillors violated the secret vote.

Paris's plans to build a new skyscraper in the shape of a giant glass pyramid to help prevent the French capital from becoming a "museum city", have been dealt a severe blow after councillors rejected the project.

Plans for Paris’s first skyscraper in 42 years hit by secret ballot row

Anne Hidalgo, the Socialist mayor of the city, has refused to admit defeat and said she would ask for a court ruling on the council vote which she claims is invalid.

The extraordinarily bitter row over the 590ft Triangle Tower is part of a larger debate over whether Paris should seek to preserve its low-slung 19th-century skyline or copy cities like London, which have built skyscrapers in historic districts.

No Triangle Tower for Paris?

The 900-feet Eiffel Tower faced deep opposition when it was built for the 1889 Universal Exposition, and the last skyscraper to be built in Paris, the 690-feet Montparnasse Tower which opened in 1973, is widely seen as an eyesore.

Most other modern skyscrapers have been concentrated in the La Defense business district in the city's western outskirts, outside the official limits of the city of Paris.

The fate of the 43-storey "Tour Triangle", which takes the form of a squashed pyramid, now appears to lie in the hands of an administrative court, which will further delay the project even if it eventually does go ahead.
