This is a list of video games that have sold the most copies in gaming history.

It's been an interesting time for interactive entertainment in past few decades, and when it comes to the legacy of video games the numbers speak for themselves. And while sales stats are not the most important indicator of success these games need to be mentoned in the way they should be:

5. Super Mario Bros.(1985) - 40.24 million

Super Mario Bros is a 1985 platform video game internally developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo as a pseudo-sequel to the 1983 game Mario Bros. In 2005, IGN's poll named the "pioneering" and "highly influential" title as The Greatest Game Of All Time.

4. Grand Theft Auto V (2013) - 43.57 million

Grand Theft Auto V is an open world, action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It was released on 17th September 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. As one of the most awaited video game titles to be released in 2013, the game was widely anticipated prior to its release. The game sold 11.21 million copies and grossed $800 million on it's first day, setting many records, and eventually making $1 billion within 3 days of the game's release.

3. Minecraft (2009) - 54 million

The most popular Lego style adventure game which has massively increased in popularity since it was released two years ago. The video game puts players in a randomly-generated world where they can create their own structures and contraptions out of textured cubes. It's an independent game with the most basic of graphics, there's no storyline and you won't see it advertised on TV or posters put up in your local train station. The Swedish developer of Minecraft, Markus Persson, was a virtually unknown computer programmer when he came up with the idea for the game.

2. Wii Sports (2006) - 82.54 million

Its sales were helped by being bundled with Wii consoles from that point onwards, and the fact it shipped with Nintendo's Wii MotionPlus add-on. The game reached that milestone after 110 weeks of sales. The bundling of Wii Sports with the Wii console is integral to the success of the Wii console and the game.

1. Tetris (1984) - 170 million

The best-selling video game of all time as measured by unbundled, independent sales is, ironically, Tetris. That number goes up when you consider that Tetris was sold for play on almost every console and PC platform ever released, though the exact Tetris sales numbers get fuzzy when you try to add them all up.
