If you wish to make all natural alternatives for your household and bathroom, homemade shampoo is one of the toughest products to make. But there are tricks to make this very easy.
If you are one of those people who have coarse hair that is not naturally oily, this recipe could be excellent for you!
I missed to mention the foaming properties of shampoo. We know that the “foam” in common shampoo is made by detergents and few other chemicals, but in this recipe I was inspired by natural coconut milk – scented, and I was able to complete the recipe that works well for all hair types. This natural shampoo will not leave your hair oily, tangled or both.

It works great on children’s hair too, the only problem is that is not tear free, so be careful and watch your eyes!
This recipe is so easy; I can’t believe it took me so much time to discover it.
The key to this recipe is Coconut Milk as a Secret ingredient.
What you need to have in Homemade Shampoo
1. First, Coconut milk. For most people, canned stuff is not working well, but most of them said that coconut milk worked great. Depending on consumer’s hair type, homemade is the best for you.
2. Second ingredient is Liquid Castille Soap – you can use Dr. Bronners, it works great.
3. Essential Oils of your choice (I personally recommend rosemary, lavender, orange, peppermint or combination of these Essential Oils).

Natural Homemade Shampoo – Ingredients
- 1/4 cup of coconut milk (canned or homemade)
- 1/4 cup of Liquid Castille Soap, like Dr. Bronners or similar
- 20 drops of your favorite Essential Oils (You can use lavender, orange, peppermint, rosemary or you can combine them as you wish)
- If you have dry hair: add 1/2 tablespoons of almond or olive oil (this is optional)

Instructions – How to Make Homemade Shampoo
1. Take an old shampoo bottle or any clean jar you have and combine all ingredients (you can also use foaming dispenser or liquid soap pump dispenser works completely good. Only, if you use foaming dispenser, add about 1/4 cup of distilled water)
2. Shake the content well to mix everything.
3. Put this in your bathroom and use for up to a month.
4. Don’t forget to shake before each use.
5. Use approximately one tablespoon every time you shampoo.
6. It also makes an excellent shaving cream – If you use a foaming dispenser, just dilute the content with 1/4 cup of distilled water.

In addition: Many people who tried this recipe, suggested that 50:50 mixture of water and apple cider vinegar used as a wash away helps to get cleaner hair and to increase shine.
When you are traveling or you don’t have a time to make your own shampoo, try to use these organic shampoos that work just fine.
I recommend:
- Morrocco Method, which is Raw Organic and Natural Shampoo Option – this one is not that foamy like regular shampoo but it will make your hair absolutely amazing, and it will strengthen your hair over time.
- You can also try Argan - natural shampoo, or
- Acure - Organics Shampoo
