Televised sunrise became a need in Beijing, because it is the only sunrise people can see because of smog.

Hey guys, really don't know how to start this, I don't want to scare any of you, so my tone while speaking about a very serious problem - air pollution and smog won't be that serious.

Imagine a day without a sunrise. Try to remember if there were days like this that you know? Maybe there were days when it was cloudy so it was dark all day, but, there was a sunrise. And, even if there wasn't a sunrise, never mind, it was cloudy. But, imagine that there is something in the air that is blocking the sun, and your whole day looks as it was bad weather, even if it is sunny in the whole country.

Beijing has a problem like this. Smog in Beijing became so thick that it is blocking the sunrays and people just can't see the sun whole day. The sun is something that is making our days look nice, it is making us happy, it is the sign of a good weather, but, Beijing people don't have it. The only sunrise they could see was the sun projected on a LED TV.

The smog was very thick, because of industry and traffic in Beijing. Workers needed to wear masks and it was recommended for school children and elderly to stay indoor.

People often say that they can't see the building that is across the street because of a smog and, they caugh a lot.

From 1 to 6 a.m. on Thursday, the U.S. embassy in Beijing—which reports the capital's air quality via Twitter—recorded levels of air pollution that was literally off the charts. Concentrations of particulate matter less than 2.5 micrometers in diameter reached more than 600 micrograms per cubic meter. At half that level, the U.S. State Department issues a "hazerdous" warning, meaning "everyone should avoid all outdoor exertion."

The Government released severe air warnings, but, warnings are just not enough. China has one of the fastest growing populations and industries in the world, but, this air pollution is a sign that they have to think about other things than just growing. They have developed a lot during the last few years, but, that development seems as unsustainable and I think it is just the matter of time when they are going to have natural catastrophe because of the consequences of the industry that is growing faster than the environment can get.
