Old mobile phones are getting more and more popular. Damiena Douany, an expert for new technologies in agency FaDa, says that having a retro phone is now the matter of fashion. It is amazing that prices of some models went up to EUR 1000.

Do you remember when you played Snage on your Nokia and when it was all you need for fun. Believe it or not, this time is comming back. Many users want to get old, classic phones where they can be sure that their battery will last for weeks, they are simple to use and they are almost undestructable compared to the phones we have today.

This led to the increase of popularity of some old models of Nokia, Motorola and Ericsson and these models are very valued, so, there are models that cost more than EUR1000.

There are people who don't care about the price, so, now we have models that cost more than EUR 1000. Their price is so high because today they are very hard to find - said Jasem Hadad - a guy who started a website named vintagemobile.fr in 2009.

So, Nokia 8800 Arte Gold now costs EUR 1000, and Nokia 8800 can be bought for 250. Hadad thought that he won't get anything from this job, but, last year sales went up. In the last two or three years, he managed to sell more than 10.000 old mobile devices. He says that it is easiest to sell Nokia 8210 at a price of 59.99.

Older people want simple devices, while young people need a cheap secondary phone.

The irony is that this trend started when telecommunication industry decided to recycle these phones because of smartphones.

For Damien Douany, having a retro phone is a matter of fashion.

It is wonderful to find an artefact that we know that comes from another era. It is liek when you buy some old shoes that you couldn't afford when you were a teenager.
