Human rights? Women rights? Hm, come again?
A huge aspect about this topic is the thing called stereotypes. Being judgy is not the thing anyone should be doing. This time let’s take women as an example.
This is the 21st century and we are still shaping our perception about women with a lot of stereotypes.
How to fight this?
Well art could be a good answer. It is not that limited as the verbal expression.
Brazilian artist Carol Rossetti has done an amazing work with this. She made a series of elegant colour-pencil illustrations under the title of “Women”. She tends to raise awareness about the prejudice that are deeply rooted into the worlds society about women.
This is just a part of a project that aims to counteract the worlds need to control women, in terms of their body, behaviour and identity.
This is quite deeply rooted in our culture and we often don’t even realize it. It is something quite cruel and it means restriction of a personal choice. Rossetti sees it that way.
According to her, this could be noticed in the treatment of for example, minority groups. The same pattern of stereotypes and at the end treatment of them.
Her work was a way of fighting the inequality that we must overcome.
Why she picked out women? Partly because she can resemble. She is a woman and she can identify herself. There was also another goal. She wanted to make men identify with female characters. At least to try to provoke this to happen.
Which better way to make someone aware of something than to make him identify?
This was also aimed to break the stigma of things that are only “for girls”. There is no such kind of thing. It’s just a prejudice manifestation.
A genious way that calls up attention in an original way! There should be more stuff like this one!
