So far we heard about various descriptions of emotions. Lyrical, historical, psychological, sociological... Chemical... Did you try to explain emotions mathematically? You've got to figure out what emotions are in order to deal with them! Everyone uses their own methods.

Emotions. We must talk about emotions!

Emotions are the core of every human being. It’s the emotion that makes you human. Well, dealing with emotions to be precise.

What are the emotions? That is a really complex thing. To have a healthy life it is not just about being fit. It’s also about dealing with emotions and treating them in a healthy and right way.

There are some good and some bad emotions. Well, this is not quite correct. There is no bad emotion. We cannot value an emotion as good or bad. Or positive or negative.

We could use a little bit of math concepts. Emotion is something that has it’s vectors. It even has the three core concepts of a vector. The course, the direction and the intensity.

An emotion can also be described as a continuous function. Or a discreet one.
This could sound a little bit plastic. It’s emotions right? The explanation should be emotional. Well, the purpose is to make things clear.

There is something core about emotions. We all have them. And we understand them more or less. If you don’t understand it how are you going to deal with it?
It’s not important how are you going to explain it to yourself. Plastic or emotional. It’s just about dealing with them.

So, here is a new way of talking about emotions. It’s pretty same as any other. It’s conceptual. It’s just explaining it in the terms that you’re familiar with.
So let’s get started.

An emotion is like a vector – it has the course, the direction and the intensity.

The course. An emotion happens between two spots. A and B. An emotion comes up while you’re talking to someone. Looking at someone. Doing something with someone.

The direction. An emotion can be directed to different points. Or not to make a precision error, it can involve others in various ways, and aspects.

The intensity. Well this is something everyone understand. Every emotion has the intensity. XY amount of anger. Love. Sadness. Joy.

What makes this vector complexed? We cannot measure it precisely. A human being is not able to express the precise amount of any kind of emotion. How would you measure precisely how much you love someone? You can say you do or you don’t. We can agree you feel the love a lot or a little bit. But you can’t say accurately.

It can also be a loop. If the emotion is coursed and directed from you and to you.

What’s next?

Functions! Mathematicians live for them! System theory can also be useful here. You’re a blackbox. Things happen to you. Those are the inputs. The black box is you. You respond to an entrance. Feel something. React. The thing you get as the output is the emotion.

Or sometimes your emotion can be an input.
Continuous? Well some emotions happen in bigger time sequences. Discreet? Some happen within smaller time sequences and recall every once in a while.

What else do you know about emotions?
