Yes, this really exists. Sadly.

Women rights! An endless story. We are in a pretty good position today. At least a lot of women. A century ago there was even propaganda against women. Against those who weren’t quiet when their rights weren’t recognized.
If you look at this prospects you can get an impression that women were seen as an inferior population at that time. It is scary to think this was going on just a century ago.

Suffragettes were those who stood up and fought with big courage for the way we live today. They gathered en masse to show the world their voice mattered. And changed the course of history.
The Suffragette movement started off from British women from the upper and middle class backgrounds. This happened at the beginning of the 20th century.
These women were becoming increasingly frustrated because of the social and economic situation they were in. The entire world striving into progress, the development screaming out loud… In a male voice. Not a single female word was heard.

This wasn’t an easy thing to do. In response to their wish to make a change, the male dominated print media gave a kick. There is a lot of posters, among other things, from that time, that show us exactly what these corageous women had to go through.
These posters were meant to spread fear of women among the male population.
Some would call it hysteric propaganda. Were they already scared of what was going on or were they just about to seed fear?
A lot of these posters are quite offensive. But on most of them you can sit back and laugh. But probably it wasn’t that funny at the time.
These posters also show a big thing to us. We can compare today and back then.
Eventhough there is a lot of work to be done yet, we have made a pretty huge step in this field.
Hopefully there wouldn’t be any steps backward to that time. Just forward.

Have a look of all posters here!

This one could be a fave. Do you notice the suttle kick on the emotions of a mother that is a suffragette?
