It is known, that this herb is extremely appreciated especially Chinese emperors and ancient Greeks because of its even then known medicinal qualities. Rhodiola grows in sandy soil and high altitudes arctic areas of Europe and Asia. It grows up to 70 inches and has usually yellow flowers.
During the 20th century, science has confirmed its healing qualites. Rhodiola is rich in flavonoids that are proven to strengthen the immune system, effectively fight free radicals and alleviate the effects of stress. Additionally, this herb increases biochemical and functional potential of the organism.
Georgy Vasilyev Krylov, Russian botanist, is first who studied healing properties of Rhodiola in 1961. He also published more than 180 pharmacological and clinical studies on Rhodiola. However, Krylov discovered that the root of this plant contains powerful adaptogens and that it protects humans and animals from physical and mental stress, toxins and colds, improves mood and gives energy and mental acuity. Research in modern medicine have shown that Rhodiola stimulates and increases work capacity, protects the body from the damaging effects of free radicals, prevents the incidence of some cancers, increases the bioelectric activity of the brain, stimulates the proper functioning of the thyroid gland, helps body recover after physical effort and increases physical ability, relieves emotional stress, prevents arrhythmias, increases the amount of serotonin in the hypothalamus and mid-brain and improves sleep.
In the former Soviet Union, many studies have shown positive effects of Rhodiola. Although nobody studied the adverse effects of these plants, the scientists believe they are nonexistent because this plant has been used in Russia for centuries without any harmful effects. When it comes to the miraculous powers of this plant, scientists often remind us that several generations of researchers in Soviet Union have studied the chemical and medicinal properties of Rhodiola, and the results have for decades been a closely guarded as secret. In addition, Siberian Rose was the most important pillar of the mind and mental endurance for Soviet astronauts and athletes.
