At my friend's house, they make all kinds of toiletries, including toothpaste and deodorant. I investigated a lot to learn more about conventional shaving soaps and their toxicity, but for many years, I used homemade soap bars. Through time, I created my own personal shaving soaps with excellent properties and my skin is soft without using any chemicals.
Recipe for Foaming Shave Soap
This type of shaving soap is used most often in the shower because it is very easy, inexpensive and works fine.
Some men will find it harsh because it contains high liquid Castile content.
Ingredients - Foaming Shave Soap
Natural Aloe Vera Gel - 1/4 cup (not juice)
Liquid Castile Soap - 1/4 cup
Almond Oil or Olive Oil - 1 tablespoon
Distilled Water or lavender infused - 1/4 cup (Make sure it is warm)
Grapefruit Seed Extract or Vitamin E (for preservation)
Lavender Oil or Essential Oils (optional) for Fragrance
Foaming Soap Bottle - 8 ounces or bigger
Instructions - How to Make Foaming Shave Soap
Take foamer bottle and mix all ingredients and shake everything gently until mixed.
Shake everything well before you use it.
This recipe is very sustainable, you can use it within a couple of months (I personally use it within 2 months).
Do not use citrus oils if you are going to be in the sun, because they increase sun sensitivity.
Shave Cream Recipe
You don't have to use this recipe too often, but you should use it more often during the winter, for extra moisturizing.
If you are men, this recipe is much better for your face, because it is more gentle than the previous recipe.
Ingredients - Shave Cream - Softer Version
Coconut oil, Almond Oil or Olive oil - 1/4 cup
Cocoa Butter or Shea Butter - 3 Tablespoons
Aloe Gel - 1/4 cup
White cosmetic clay or Kaolin clay - 1 Tablespoon (this is optional)
Baking soda - 2 Tablespoons
Liquid Castile Soap - 1/4 cup
Vitamin E for better preservation
Instructions - How to Make Shave Cream
Melt cocoa/shea butter and the oil in a double boiler until everything is melted well.
When the content is melted, remove it from heat and add other ingredients.
Blend the content well for several minutes
Pour to container or jar to store
While it is cooling, constantly check to make sure that content doesn’t separate. If you notice that it does, mix or shake well to re-incorporate.
This recipe can last up to two months (maybe longer but I am not sure)
Shaving Soap Ingredients
Handcrafted soap - 1 bar - Natural version (Soaps from the store do not work)
Aloe vera gel or Almond oil - 1 Tablespoon
Cosmetic clay, French clay - 2 Tablespoons
Instructions - How to Make Shaving Soap
Melt soap on low heat and add in aloe vera. This process will take a while, so you need to be patient.
When content is melted, stir the content in the cosmetic clay (this will make it great for the skin).
When this is done, pour the content into molds and leave it for 3 days until it re-hardens.
Entire quantity should last several months.
