2018 “Wheels” Car of the Year winner revealed!

For the first time in Auto history, an SUV was declared best car two years in a row, but this time it was medium-premium contender SUV made by Volvo, with an amazing well-rounded XC60.

What car is the 2019 winner? 2019 Wheels Car of the Year

2018 was a victory year for the Volvo XC60 and many experts say that this was a turning point in car history thanks to this Swedish brand. Volvo was able to secure a final-stage for these vehicles during this century’s Car of the Year competitions. Some of these are the V70 wagon in 2000, the S40/V40 in 2004, and more than any other is current XC90 in 2014 – but the leading car in its class is XC60 which represents the first time in history that Volvo accomplished total cohesion both in execution and design.

The competition was strong in this class, Volvo was competing with a 22-strong field of contenders, making a mega-buck luxury sedan to be also a light hatchback. This model went from strength to strength to earn the main award for automotive excellence. It proved itself in both dynamics, performance, and interior design, and final evaluation was made based on just how well it works in real traffic.

No matter how you put it, the Volvo XC60 is a premium product, said Editor Alex Inwood. Experts also explained that in an era where everything is defined by superficiality, the XC60 is just what the car industry needs and exactly what we expect from any car and all this comes from a brand like Volvo. It gives a challenge to all carmakers and for a good reason, it deserves the Wheels Car of the Year award. Volvo XC60 was competing with the new-generation Audi Q5 and BMW X3, attention was on details and innovation. In this competition was also more affordable CX-5, but the XC60 demonstrated its superior ability in a number of key areas.

You can easily notice the love and care devoted to this Volvo model during its development, not to mention ambitions for the future by Volvo, experts explained.

What about the Contenders?

As a result in this category, we have an amazing family SUV – at the same time stylish and super-safe car and super fun to drive, by all means, a deserving Car of the Year champion. Investors from various companies and countries such as China, who invested in this project can be proud because this 90-year-old marque has come to the realization.
