Known as a secretive country, Myanmar (formerly Burma) is still a country that once inspired Rudyard Kipling to write the legendary poem “Road to Mandalay.” Other than Mandalay, however, the country also has other natural attractions. One of them is Chaung Tha Beach, a beautiful beach 6 hours away from the capital Rangoon.

Chaung Tha Beach is located in Ayeyarwady Region at western part of Myanmar. It is part of the ecology that forms Bengal Bay. Travellers reach the beach with a 6-hours journey from Rangoon using bus or chartered vehicles. The route is narrow and winding, but the toil during the journey will be rewarded with the beauty and relaxed atmosphere of Chaung Tha.

Chaung Tha is a coast are with meandering contour. Waves are not too big here so the water is safe for all ages. The sand is golden and solid, making it a pleasure to take a walk along the coast line or build a sand castle. Cycling is one of the most favourite activities here and there are stalls renting bicycles. Water sports features, such as rubber boat, are also available.

One of the unique attractions of Chaung Tha is its fresh seafood. Sea-based foods are offered at food stalls lining not too far away from the beach. There are also stalls selling souvenirs, mostly made of shells. General atmosphere of the beach is relaxed and quiet, almost tranquil, as foreigners are still rare here. Most of the visitors are domestic tourists of Burmese coming from mid-to-high class.

Chaung Tha Beach faces west so visitors are able to enjoy sunset scenery.
