Humans are the most perfect creatures in the planet. Is it because we have ten fingers which are shaped in a way that is very good for us, in a way that enabled us to do whatever we want, or it is because we know what we want? I think, the other thing was crucial for human race development. Our ability to think is something that took us where we are now. And, as good thinkers, we managed to become No1 predators in the world. No, predators No.1 aren’t lions, sharks, tigers or anything else. We are. There are proves of that all around you. Whole planet is covered with roads, cities, railroads and other things we created. We rule the oceans with submarines, we cover the sky with planes. We are the dominating specie. That is very good for us because it is always good to be No1. We can decide in which direction everything will go, not talking about revolution and rotation, but, other things, yes. We have a lot of power. But, with all that power, there comes a great responsibility.

Human race has just confirmed its position by building factories, weapons, plants, by developing many disciplines like medicine and similar things. Because of that, human population has grown, especially in last century, despite wars and other destructive things. Population that is that large has large needs. In order to satisfy those needs, production has to grow and also must use more resources and will pollute more than it was polluting before. We, as the dominant specie in this world, have the responsibility to save the planet, because it came this far because of us.

Air pollution is one of the ways we affect the nature. There are many ways how we pollute air. Smog is only one type of that. It is very obvious and it is something we all had a chance to see. But, there are many other invisible ways how we pollute air and contribute to global warming. Any substance that we release into the atmosphere that damages living things or environment is named pollution.

CO2 is one of the main ways how we pollute air. It creates a greenhouse effect and makes our planet warmer and warmer. By releasing CO2, I don’t think of releasing it while breathing, because it is aonly a small percentage of total CO2 released. I think of carbon dioxide that is released by cars, planes, power plants and other things we use in order to create higher economic standards. It is connected with burning fossil fuels and they represent the main source of air pollution. CO2 creates greenhouse effect because it enables sunrays to come in and warm up the atmosphere and everything that is inside the “greenhouse”. Also, they do something like insulation systems and reduce the percentage of temperature that is released, because of that, earth gets warmer and warmer.

Not only CO2 is harming our atmosphere. There are other greenhouse gases like methane which comes from swamps and CFCs which are used in refrigerants and aerosol propellants. Now they are banned because they destroy Earth’s ozone layer.

Also, sulfur dioxide is another pollutant. Sulfur dioxide is one of the main components of smog. If there is a lot of sulfur dioxide in the air, acid rains will fall and they will destroy many herbs. It also reflects light and causes Earth cooling down. Volcanoes release a lot of sulfur dioxide when erupting, but, now they are not the main producers of this gas, people are. But, there is also another thing about sulfur dioxide. Sulfur dioxide blocks sunlights and reduces global warming which is increased because of the greenhouse effect, so, many people think that reducing this substance usage will just make global warming problem worse.

I hope I explained how everything that we release into atmosphere will come back to us, not right now, but when it comes, it will come with “interest”. Long-term thinking is something that is very important and that is crucial for saving the world at least how it is now. What we can do about it is to recycle, drive and fly less then we used to. We shouldn’t leave our “carbon footprints”.

And, what governments should do is that they should create laws that restrict or ban using something that harms our environment. Greenhouse gasses should be reduced to minimum. Car producers should produce cars that don’t release that much CO2 and, in perfect situations, they should switch to producing electric cars. Petrol stations should sell only quality petrol. People that don’t do this by these rules, should pay high taxes because we have only one place to live and losing it would be more expensive than any money we could pay now.
